How sales tax is handled

One of the benefits of selling on Kashew is that you do not need to worry about sales tax. Kashew handles the entire sales tax process on your behalf.

How it works

Kashew automatically calculates and collects the correct amount of sales tax from the customer at checkout. The tax amount is determined based on several factors, including:

• The customer's location — where the item is being shipped or picked up
• The seller's location — where the order is shipped from
• Applicable tax exemptions — such as trade accounts with a resale certificate or tax-exempt buyers
• Product type and local tax rules

Sales tax is shown as a separate line item to the customer during checkout and is collected at the time of purchase.

What this means for you as a seller

Because Kashew collects and remits sales tax directly, you as a seller do not need to:

• Calculate sales tax for any order
• Collect sales tax from customers
• Remit sales tax to any tax authority
• Perform any other tax-related duties for orders placed through Kashew

Your payout is based on the item price minus the Kashew commission — sales tax is never included in or deducted from your payout.

Sales tax documents

Since sales tax is collected and remitted entirely by Kashew and is never passed through to the seller, we do not currently provide separate sales tax documents to sellers. The tax is handled on our side from start to finish, so there is nothing you need to report or file related to Kashew sales tax.
